Long Cove Club Golfers know that Long Cove is home to one of the finest and most acclaimed private golf courses in the country. Although the highly rated, Pete Dye designed golf course is the centerpiece of the club, Long Cove offers facilities and amenities for people of diverse interests.
Since it’s opening, Long Cove Club has been ranked as high as 19th in the “Top 100 Courses in the U.S.” and first in South Carolina by Golf Digest magazine, and was recently ranked seventh among Golfweek magazine’s list of “America’s 100 Best Residential Courses.” As Pete Dye intended, Long Cove presents a variety of scenes and challenges.
Oaks, pines and magnolias line the forested holes; tidal marshlands, lagoons and sandy natural areas frame the classic Lowcountry holes; and open landscapes with dramatic swales, hollows, pot bunkers, coastal grasses and boldly-contoured greens characterize the link-style holes.
Every property owner is a member of the Club and has full use of the golf, tennis, pool, and clubhouse facilities. As a private gated community, Long Cove has security officers on duty 24 hours a day. The community features a handsome 17,000 square-foot clubhouse, which hosts numerous social functions throughout the year; a new tennis center, featuring ten clay courts and expanded pro shop; an Olympic size pool and children’s pool, private docks on Broad Creek with deep-water access, accommodating approximately 100 boats; a private garden facility and a playground.
Long Cove has one of the area’s finest tennis facilities with a full-equipped and staffed pro shop, a pleasant viewing terrace and 8 Har-Tru Courts, two of which are lighted. In addition, the tennis professional is ranked No.1 in the South and No.4 in the U.S. in the age 40-and-over doubles category, and he conducts free clinics for both men and women each week, as well as private lessons.
The Long Cove Yacht Club is divided into three divisions –fishing, kayaking and cruising. All three divisions plan monthly events opened to all Yacht Club members. Located on Broad Creek, there are 60 boat slips and 45 kayak storage spaces available free to any Long Cove member.
Of all this inviting community has to offer, some proclaim its members are, in fact, its greatest asset. According to Bob Patton, Long Cove’s head golf professional, “This community has always attracted a certain type of member, our members are very warm and understated. They have their pedigrees but they don’t wear them on their sleeves.” Apparently, the golf course is only one of many treasures waiting to be discovered at Long Cove.
