As the interesting story goes, George Lumley started The Gatherings in the early 1980s. About eight units, or spec homes, were initially built and they were all connected by a series of boardwalks. These boardwalks created places for neighbors to “gather” and visit with each other. This allowed them to slow down from their busy daily schedules and unwind. Some say this may be how the community got its name. People were reminded of days gone by, when neighbors became friends, and they looked after each other. And, at The Gatherings, people do just that.

The Gatherings. Most are single-family homes, but the neighborhood features approximately twelve duplex buildings. While the majority of the homes were constructed in the 1980s, building in this charming community has continued steadily since The Gatherings first opened.

This “community pride” has driven many residents to become actively involved in the community’s Neighborhood Watch program. This way, everyone benefits from an active and involved community, and the residents can all feel safer. The presence of an evening security guard also adds to residents’ peace of mind.
The Gatherings offers some special amenities, including tennis courts, a lovely pool with a deck area for socializing and entertaining, and a scenic area perfect for viewing the landscape. The pool is ideally situated to take full advantage of the marsh breezes and views.
The Property Owners’ Association takes an active role in the community. They have a solid reputation as being supportive and understanding of residents’ concerns and Matthew declared they “get things done in a hurry.”
The Gatherings is almost like a step back in time. The lovely homes in this community are warm and welcoming, as are the residents. It is almost difficult to believe, after turning into The Gatherings, that the “hustle and bustle” of Highway 278 is nearby.
