Island West

Island West, a serene community by D.R. Horton, is located in greater Bluffton near the junction of Highway 278 and Highway 170. Although it is conveniently located near two major roads, once you enter the gated community, you would never know anything of the nearby traffic.

When D.R. Horton planned Island West, the goal was to combine the true essence of Southern living with a high quality home that features modern conveniences to suit today’s homeowner. The builder also wanted to include many standard features which many other builders consider to be an “upgrade.” One of the standard D.R. Horton features, which gets lots of applause from homeowners, is the extensive use of crown molding throughout the homes. Little touches like this go a long way to improving re-sale value of homes, which is an important concern for many of today’s homebuyers.

Island West, a serene community by D.R. Horton,Another way Island West has made home ownership a truly happy experience for residents is the clever removal of the “headaches” that often accompany the homebuilding process. A design center is conveniently located on-site at Island West, so home buyers can make all of their choices in one location. This eliminates the need for lots of driving, dragging around paint and flooring samples, etc. from different stores for homeowners.

The homes at Island West feature a variety of floor plans to accommodate today’s diverse families and lifestyles. The community has residents ranging from young families to retirees, all living their dream of being a part of the Lowcountry lifestyle. The homes range from 1,800+ square feet up to 3,400+ square feet, with prices from the low $300s up to the high $400s. This gives lots of affordable choices for families.

Island West Golf Club Island West was built not just around the community’s golf course, but also the natural beauty of the area. Homes feature lovely woodland, lagoon, and golf course views. The abundance of natural wildlife serves to enhance residents’ enjoyment of their community. It also helps ensure privacy for residents and their guests.

The Fuzzy Zoeller designed Island West Golf Club , 18-hole golf course is open to the public. (Island West residents are not required to purchase a membership.) When speaking about playing the golf course, General Manager Kevin Lavertu said, “Our passion is making sure you enjoy yours.” The course is fun and challenging, and offers a good time to golfers of all skill levels. Kevin said he often wakes up before his alarm clock tells him it is morning again, because he loves to be at Island West, making sure golfers have an “unforgettable experience.” There is also a pro shop and grill on-site at Island West.

Island West community poolAll of the amenities were designed to be welcoming to the diverse population of Island West residents and their guests. For this reason, an interesting assortment of activities is available. They include: swimming in the main pool and “kiddie” pool; a fully equipped fitness center; a Tae-bo workout room; tennis courts; a bocce court; a meeting room; and playground. Residents can often be found mingling at the amenities center.

Island West residents Dan and Carol Zawacki said one of their favorite aspects of their community is the closeness of the neighbors. Originally from Michigan, the Zawackis began vacationing here with friends over spring break. Since both Dan and Carol are teachers, they began thinking more and more about moving to the South “when they retired.” When the friends who helped them discover Hilton Head moved here, that proved to be just the catalyst they needed to make their move. Carol is now retired, but Dan ended up teaching full time (again!) at Hilton Head High School. The Zawackis said that lots of other Island West residents are from other locales, and that helped everyone blend together nicely.

Island West blends tranquil settings with modern conveniences to create a comfortable, well-planned neighborhood. The numerous amenities provide lots of activities for residents and guests, along with a host of opportunities to enjoy spending time with neighbors.
